WSOC: Ford’s Goal Not Enough as Huskies Fall at McNeese

HBU out-shoot the host Cowgirls but lose, 3-1

LAKE CHARLES, La. – HBU attempted more shots with more on goal than McNeese but it was the Cowgirls who found the net more often as the Huskies lost a 3-1 Southland Conference matchup on Friday afternoon at the Lake Charles Multi Sports Complex.

McNeese (2-1-0, 2-0-0 SLC) struck early with Anna Watson scoring to the top left corner in the fifth minute on the team's first shot of the match. HBU (0-4-1, 0-3-0 SLC) put two shots on goal in the span of less than two minutes with Angela Baltimore and Ryan Ford the strikers but McNeese goalkeeper Kelly Hines made both stops. Both teams had one shot attempt, both off target, over the final 22 minutes of the first half.

The Cowgirls extended their lead with goals in the 60th and 65th minutes for a 3-0 advantage. Tayah Reynolds and Catalina Elwonger put shots on target that were saved before Ford found the net in the 79th minute for her first goal of the season.

HBU held a 12-8 advantage in shot attempts with six shots on goal to the Cowgirls' five. The Huskies also earned three corner kicks with McNeese earning two.

HBU will remain on the road Sunday, Feb. 28, when the Huskies take on Lamar in Beaumont, Texas at 1:00 p.m.
