BEAUMONT, Texas - HBU sophomore
Ryan Ford's early goal put the Huskies ahead but the HBU women's soccer team lost a 3-1 Southland Conference matchup to the host Lamar Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at the LU Soccer Complex.
The Huskies (0-5-1, 0-4-0 SLC) struck first in the seventeenth minute with a goal by
Ryan Ford, assisted by
Noor Abukishk. Lamar (3-1-0, 2-1-0 SLC), however, responded quickly after a corner kick set up Lamar in the offensive end and resulted in a goal by Hollie Massey less than two minutes after Ford's score. The final two scores for the Cardinals came in quick succession over the next eight minutes, putting them ahead, 3-1.
The Huskies found more offensive opportunities in the second half with attempts on goal from Abukishk,
Mia Salas and Ford all testing the LU goalkeeper. The Huskies held a slim 16-15 advantage in shot attempts with Lamar putting seven on target to HBU's six. The Huskies also earned five corners to the Cardinals' four.
The goal was her second in as many games and her second of the season while Abukishk's assist was her second of the year.
Karla Ramirez finished the game with five saves for the Huskies.
The Huskies will be at home at Sorrels Field on Friday, March 5th, to take on Central Arkansas at 7:00 p.m.
