HOUSTON – A pair of first half goals marked the totality of the scoring as the HBU women's soccer team fell by a 2-0 margin in Southland Conference play to the visiting Northwestern State Lady Demons on Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.
Northwestern State (4-0-0, 2-0-0 SLC) struck early after an Olivia Draguicevich attempt was stopped by HBU (0-3-1, 0-2-0 SLC) goalkeeper
Karla Ramirez but set up a corner kick. Kyle Nolen's corner found Samantha Hanking near the back post and she put the Lady Demons ahead in the fifth minute. Just over three minutes later, the Huskies'
Mia Salas put an attempt on target but the NSU keeper made the stop.
After two more shots on the mark but without finding the net, NSU extended its lead to two in the 25
th minute thanks to a goal from Kalee Williams with an assist from Jalen Donaldson. The Huskies had one more good look in the first half with
Bryce Reynolds putting a header on goal to the top left corner but it was cleared away over the crossbar.
The second half was relatively quiet with the Lady Demons recording just two shot attempts with neither on goal while the Huskies put two attempts on the mark out of their four shots with both coming in the game's final two minutes.
Salas led HBU with three shot attempts and Ramirez finished the game with three saves.
The Huskies will next head east to Lake Charles, La. to face McNeese on Friday, Feb. 26, at 7:00 p.m.
