HOUSTON - HBU went wire-to-wire for a victory over St. Thomas in their 2021-2022 home opener, 70-48, in non-conference women's basketball Sunday afternoon in Sharp
Gym.
HBU led the entire game with the largest margin being 33 in the third quarter and a scoring run of 12 in the first quarter. HBU was up by 21 at the half following a jumper from
Kennedy Wilson with 19 seconds to go in the second quarter. The Celts were able to inch closer in the second half outscoring the Huskies' by seven points in the fourth quarter that was riddled with turnovers and fouls on both sides.
Three players had double-digit scoring totals including
Julija Vujakovic who led the team with 15 points in addition to her three rebounds.
N'Denasija Collins and
Kennedy Wilson scored 10 and 13 points, respectively. Wilson made both of her three-point attempts and Collins made all four of her free throws.
Amy Cotton led the team in rebounds with a total of eight and had the team's only three blocks of the game.
The Celts were led by Adriana Chavez with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Ce'Briaya Bell added seven points.
The Huskies have a quick turnaround to their Tuesday, November 16th home game against Texas Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
