HOUSTON – Nicholls rushed for 347 of its 572 total yards, while holding HBU to 157 total yards in a 44-14 win in Southland Conference football Saturday night at Husky Stadium.

Freshman quarterback Orion Olivas completed 21-of-43 passes for 149 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Huskies (0-7, 0-4 SLC). Sophomore Tyson Thompson made six catches for 42 yards and had an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, while sophomore Jaylon Coleman had four catches for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Collin Guggenheim carried 22 times for 123 yards and a score. Dontaze Costly made five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown and Dai'Jean Dixon had five catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Tyreke Boyd led the Colonels with six tackles and made two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. Perry Ganci added 1.5 sacks, while Jamiran James and Johmel Jollla Jr. each had a sack.

Nicholls had 30 first downs to HBU's 15 and each team turned the ball over twice – all in the first quarter. The Colonels were penalized seven times for 73 yards and the Huskies were penalized six times for 55 yards.

Nicholls took the opening kickoff and were driving, but Dansby forced a fumble and Miller recovered at the Colonels' 45. HBU went three-and-out before punting it away. The Colonels drove all the way down to the Huskies' 3-yard line, but Scott was intercepted by Toliver in the endzone. HBU once again had to punt, giving Nicholls the ball at its own 42. Scott broke away for a 42-yard touchdown run to give the Colonels a 7-0 lead with 3:41 left in the opening quarter.

HBU answered right back as Thompson returned the kickoff for a touchdown. The tie was short-lived as Scott took off again for a 46-yard touchdown run, but the extra point missed wide right to make Nicholls' lead 13-7. On the Huskies' ensuing possession, Olivas was intercepted by Boyd, who ran it back 32 yards for a touchdown and extended the Colonels lead to 20-7. Olivas was intercepted by Boyd again and he returned it 20 yards to the HBU 35. Scott hit Costly for a 35-yard touchdown on the first play to extend the lead to 27-7.

Scott's 31-yard completion to Lee Negrotto set up Gavin Lasseigne's 32-yard field goal that put the Colonels ahead 30-7 with 4:37 to go in the first half. Olivas led a 13-play, 71-yard drive, capped by a six-yard touchdown pass to Coleman as the Huskies cut the lead to 30-14 just before halftime.

The Colonels scored on their first possession of the second half, with Scott leading a 12-play, 61-yard drive and completing a 1-yard pass to Dixon for a touchdown to take a 37-14 lead. Nicholls had a 12-play, 95-yard drive in the fourth that Guggenheim finished off with a 1-yard run for a touchdown.

The Huskies will be on the road for back-to-back games, next week at UIW, followed by Northwestern State, before returning home for the final two games of the season.
