THIBODAUX, La. – Sophomore
Caroline Havard scored the game-winner in the eighth minute and the HBU women's soccer team earned a 3-0 road win over Southland Conference foe Nicholls at the Nicholls Soccer Complex on Thursday.
Xya Balderas had an attempt on target in the sixth minute that was saved by the Nicholls (0-13, 0-9 SLC) keeper but HBU (4-8-3, 4-3-2 SLC) found the net less than two minutes later when
Katie Marker set up
Caroline Havard for her first career goal to the top left corner. The Huskies held on to that 1-0 lead until the 24
th minute with
Mia Salas doubling the team's lead to 2-0 with an assist from
Xya Balderas.
In the second half, the Colonels got their lone shot on goal in the 62
nd minute but
Karla Ramirez made the save and maintained the shutout. HBU's final goal came off the foot of Balderas with just 20 seconds left on the clock and Marker picking up her second assist of the match.
Balderas' goal was her second of the season and for Marker it was her second multi-assist game of the year. The Huskies finished with 18 shots and eight on goal while earning seven corners.
The Huskies will be in Hammond, La. on Sunday, Oct. 17, afternoon to take on the Southeastern Lady Lions for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Strawberry Stadium.
