SAN ANTONIO – HBU will hit the road to face UIW Thursday, followed by defending champion and first-place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday in Southland Conference volleyball.
The second-place Huskies (13-6, 4-1 SLC) are led by junior setter
Ellie Wipf, who leads the conference with 9.62 assists per set, averages 2.23 digs per set and has 60 kills and 44 blocks on the season. Junior
Anna Gadway leads HBU with 2.66 kills per set and also averages 2.54 digs per set, while freshman middle blocker
Audrey Pearce adds 2.26 kills and 1.15 blocks per set. Sophomore outside hitter
Sara Arroyo chips in with 2.15 kills and senior middle blocker
Jada Allen averages 2.11 kills per set. Senior middle blocker
Ebonie Ballesteros leads the Southland with 1.30 blocks per set and sophomore libero
Kaley Feris ranks fourth in the league with 4.38 digs per set.
Bethany Clapp ranks second in the conference with 3.45 kills per set and adds 2.66 digs per set to pace the Cardinals (8-11, 3-2), who are tied for third in the league, one game behind the Huskies. Risa Sena averages 2.58 kills per set and Annamarie Alvarez contributes 2.20 kills per set. Macy Sumrall anchors UIW defensively with 4.48 digs per set and Jacqueline Arrington leads the team with 1.08 blocks per set.
The Islanders (9-7, 5-0) are the only undefeated team in the conference and are directed by Faith Panhans, who averages 8.78 assists per set and also adds 1.65 kills and 1.31 digs per set. Kyndal Payne leads TAMU-CC with 3.16 kills per set and Rachel Young adds 2.59. Carissa Barnes leads the nation with 6.68 digs per set.
The Huskies will be back at home next week to host the Cardinals Thursday and the Islanders Saturday in Sharp Gym.
