SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Two goals in the span of 15 seconds during the ninth minute accounted for all of the scoring as the HBU women's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to the host UIW Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at Benson Stadium.
HBU (3-8-3, 3-3-2 SLC) earned a corner kick early in the third minute and sophomore
Mia Salas put a shot on goal but UIW (3-9-1, 3-4-0 SLC) goalkeeper Margaret Kofron made the save. Less than five minutes later, Keeley Ayala assisted Hannah Walsh who found the net to the low left. After the Huskies ensuing kickoff, the Cardinals turned right back around and Sierra Wannamaker made it a 2-0 game with a goal 14 seconds after Walsh's.
Caroline Gillispie and
Xya Balderas both had shots on target in the first half.
Shots were hard to come by for both teams in the second half with the Huskies managing just one attempt, a
Katie Marker shot on goal that was stopped in the 64
th minute. UIW took six shots attempts but only one was on target, coming from Ayala in the 61
st minute.
Karla Ramirez finished with two saves in goal for the Huskies while UIW's Kofron had four stops. As a team, the Huskies attempted six shots with only Salas taking more than one shot. HBU earned four corner kicks to UIW's four.
HBU will remain on the road next weekend beginning with a Thursday, Oct. 14, afternoon matchup in Thibodaux, La. against Nicholls.
