MBB: Huskies Back Home to Host Nicholls

HBU looks to improve to 2-1 in SLC play at home

HOUSTON – After a pair of road games the HBU men's basketball comes back home to Sharp Gym to take on the Nicholls Colonels this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Husky fans can watch the action live on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play available at HBUHuskies.com.
 
The Huskies (2-10, 1-3 SLC) have dropped their last three games but have been out-scored by just 2.5 points per game in conference play. This past Saturday, HBU fell on the road, 87-80, to Sam Houston in a game that featured 15 lead changes and seven ties. Sophomore Jason Thompson enjoyed his most productive game of the season with 16 points off the bench along with five rebounds.
 
Freshman point guard Jade Tse has seen his assist numbers improve since conference play began. In the Huskies' eight non-conference games, Tse had nine assists. In four SLC games he has totaled 17 assists for an average of 4.3 apg, tied for eighth-best in the league. Additionally, Tse's assist/turnover ratio of 4.3 (17 assists, four turnovers) ranks third, right behind teammate Hunter Janacek.
 
Nicholls (6-5, 4-1 SLC) has won its last four games, including the last two on the road. Most recently, the Colonels earned a 74-72 victory at Central Arkansas. Four players scored in double-figures led by senior guard Kevin Johnson with 17 while junior Najee Garvin added 16.
 
Garvin has led Nicholls in scoring and rebounding since SLC play began, averaging 16 points and seven boards per game. Junior Ty Gordon, meanwhile, is adding 14.6 ppg and his 5.2 assists per game rank third in the league. For the season, Johnson has been a menace on the defensive end, ranking 22nd nationally with 2.36 steals per game.
 
HBU will next host the McNeese Cowboys in Sharp Gym this Saturday, Jan. 23.
