Sterling Savell have been selected to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society, the organization announced Wednesday.
The membership is comprised of college football players who completed their final year of eligibility and have maintained a 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Walker, who has a 3.69 GPA as a biochemistry and molecular biology major, was one of the two FCS ADA Scholar-Athletes of the Year, chosen from the 53-member FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-America and Southland Conference All-Academic Team honors. Walker was also voted to the American Football Coaches Association and HERO All-America Teams and was an All-Southland Conference First Team selection. The Slidell, Louisiana, led the FCS with 15.0 sacks, while posting 55 tackles, tying for the Southland lead with 19.5 tackles for loss during the regular season, with two forced fumbles and three pass breakups. Walker finished his career as HBU's all-time leader with 26.5 sacks, finishing one-half sack outside the Southland's all-time Top 10. He ranks fourth all-time at HBU with 191 tackles and second with four forced fumbles.
Savell has posted a 3.3 GPA as a management major, was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at both tackle positions for the Huskies. The Mansfield, Texas, native appeared in 38 games, including 28 starts, during his career. Savell was a three-time Southland Conference Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll selection. As a junior in 2018, he became the first offensive lineman in HBU history to score a touchdown, when he caught a four-yard touchdown pass on a tackle-eligible play at Central Arkansas.
