METAIRIE, Louisiana - The HBU Huskies split their 2020 season opener with a loss to the 19th ranked Texas Tech 6-0, and with a win against Alabama A&M, 12-0.
 
Game 1: The HBU Huskies struggled at the plate against southpaw Erin Edmoundson who struck out eight Huskies only giving up one hit in five innings of work. Texas Tech had four players hit doubles while three players had multi-hit games. Senior shortstop Amber Lotz went two for three for the Huskies while the other remaining hits were made up by two freshman, Katy Schaefer and Avery Drake, and junior Sierra Humphrey.
 
Game 2: Returning junior pitcher Jessica Patak dominated in the circle for the Huskies, throwing five innings only giving up three hits with four walks and four strikeouts in her 2020 season debut.  The Huskies hit the ball all around the field recording 15 total hits, four being extra base hits. Six Huskies had multi-hit games while senior backstop Heidi Jaquez led the charge for the Huskies driving in five runs on two hits while scoring two runs herself. Junior outfielder Riley Bullen went two for three with three runs batted in while scoring three times. Freshmen Jasie Roberts, Shelby Echols, and Katy Schaefer all recorded two hits in the Huskies 12-0 rout of the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs.
 
The Huskies return to play Saturday February 8th at 9:30 a.m. to faceoff with the tournament host Louisiana Tech followed by Jackson State at 2:30 p.m.
