HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The HBU men's basketball team hits the road this Saturday with a trip up I-45 to take on Sam Houston State in the Johnson Coliseum at 5:30 p.m. Husky fans can watch the game on ESPN+ or listen to all the action on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play via HBUHuskies.com.

HBU (3-21, 3-12 SLC) most recently dropped an 82-68 decision to third-place Abilene Christian. In that game, senior Jalon Gates finished with 11 points and was 1-of-4 from three with that made three-pointer tying his previous season-high for threes in a season at 75. His 75 made three-pointers his sophomore season is the ninth-highest total in program history. The most threes ever made in a single-season by an HBU player is 91 and was set by Bobby Sanders during the 1994-95 season.

As a team, the Huskies are among the best in the nation at getting to the free throw line and making free throws. HBU ranks 31st nationally in free throw attempts and 26th in free throws made. That is fueled largely by junior Ian DuBose who ranks 17th individually in attempts and 15th in made free throws among all Division I players in the country.

The Bearkats (17-10, 10-6 SLC) have lost four of their last seven and stand in fourth place in the conference standings. In their last game, a home 77-65 loss to Lamar, the Bearkats got double-digits scoring performances from senior Kai Mitchell and sophomore Zach Nutall but were out-shot and out-rebounded by the Cardinals.

Nutall and Mitchell lead the team in scoring for the season, as well, with Nutall averaging 15.3 ppg and Mitchell at 14.9 ppg. Mitchell is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 6.1 boards per game, while also shooting 56.7 percent from the floor. In SLC play, SHSU is second only to the Huskies in scoring offense, averaging 80.1 per game.

The Huskies will return to Sharp Gym next week for their final two home games of the season beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 26, to face Nicholls at 7:00 p.m. before taking on McNeese on Saturday, Feb.  29, for senior night at 7:00 p.m.
