BVB: Huskies Kick Off With Challenging Slate

MOBILE, Ala. - The HBU beach volleyball team will open the season on the road against Spring Hill College Friday, before competing in the Seminole Beach Bash hosted by Florida State Saturday and Sunday in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Huskies only lost two seniors from last year's team, providing an experienced, deep group for head coach Cameron Sitler. The squad is led by seniors Tori Hinojosa, who has played no lower than the No. 2 position her entire career, and Danielle Wheeler, who had the highest winning percentage on the team in 2019. The only junior on the team is Brennan Miller, who went a combined 13-13 last season.

Sophomores Kylie Bryan, Natalie Bennett, Maddie Butters, Lindsay Harris and Lauren Huggins each saw significant action in their first season, with Bryan, Bennett and Butters playing as high as the No. 2 spot. HBU also has six newcomers, including four freshmen and two graduate transfers, to provide quality depth.

The Huskies will face their most difficult schedule to date, with eight preseason Top 25 opponents lined up, in advance of the inaugural Southland Conference Championship April 16-18 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

"We have been building this program for five years and we are excited about the depth and balance our current roster provides," Sitler said. "Our school is really eager to finally get out and compete against someone other than ourselves again!"

HBU will face Spring Hill College in the season opener Friday at 11 a.m. in Mobile, Ala. The match can be followed on SHC's live stream.

The Huskies will then head to Tallahassee for the Seminole Beach Bash, where they will take on No. 2 Florida State Saturday at 8 a.m., then No. 13 South Carolina at 1 p.m. On Sunday, HBU faces Tampa at 9:15 a.m., before wrapping up against No. 9 Stetson at 1 p.m.
