DALLAS, Texas – After a tight first half, the HBU men's basketball team couldn't slow down SMU in the second period as the Huskies fell 102-75 on the road against the Mustangs on Wednesday night in Moody Coliseum.

The Huskies (0-3) found themselves in an early 9-0 hole before Ty Dalton knocked down a trey to get HBU on the board just past the three minute mark. Less than a minute and a half later the SMU (3-0) lead had grown to 10 after an Isiah Jasey layup made it 14-4. That was as high as the Mustangs' lead would get during the first half.

After a Feron Hunt jumper brought the score to 18-8, HBU used a barrage of threes for a 12-2 run in a span of 3:21 of game time to even the score at 20-20. SMU answered with the next seven points but the Huskies worked their way back to again even it up, 31-31, on a Zach Iyeyemi three-point play on a layup with the and-one free throw with 6:16 to go in the half. HBU stayed within five for much of the rest of the half but the Mustangs pushed their lead to nine with under a minute to go but a pair of Jade Tse jumper sent the Huskies into the locker trailing 49-44.

At the beginning of the second half, Tse connected on a jumper in the paint and made the ensuing free throw to pull HBU within four but the Huskies' hot shooting from the first half didn't carry over to the second the rest of the way. After knocking down 50 percent from the floor and 53 percent from three, the Huskies managed to shoot just under 27 percent for the second period. SMU pushed its lead up to 20 with just under nine minutes to go and led by at least that much the rest of the way.

Iyeyemi finished with career-bests of 10 points and five rebounds in his first career start, connecting on 3-of-5 from the floor and 4-of-7 from the foul line. Dalton led the Huskies with 12 points and three steals while Tse added 11 points, shooting 4-of-5 from the floor. Myles Pierre also had 11 for HBU and was a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc while Hunter Janacek ended the night with 10.

Kendric Davis and Ethan Chargois led SMU with 20 points apiece with Feron Hunt adding 18. SMU held a 47-34 advantage on the boards and forced the Huskies into 21 turnovers while committing just 12.

HBU's first home game of the season awaits the Huskies on Saturday, Dec. 5, when they host crosstown foe Rice at 7:00 p.m. in the first game of a two-game home-and-home series with the return trip to Tudor Fieldhouse set for Dec. 15.
