DALLAS, Texas – HBU concludes its season-opening three game road stretch on Wednesday evening inside Moody Coliseum with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against the host SMU Mustangs in the first meeting between the two programs since the 2009-10 season. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ in addition to the Husky Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (0-2) enter Wednesday's game having played a pair of road games against power-5 opponents, opening against TCU before falling at No. 18 Arizona State this past Sunday. Four different Huskies scored in double-figures against the Sun Devils with senior
Ty Dalton leading the way with 19 points. HBU shot 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from three-point range in the loss.
Through two games, three Huskies are averaging double-digits in scoring with Dalton at 12.5 ppg,
Hunter Janacek averaging 11.5 ppg and
Pedro Castro adding 10.5 ppg. Castro has been the team's top rebounder, averaging 8.5 boards per outing. The Huskies have taken advantage of opportunities from the charity stripe, shooting 82.1 percent (23-of-28) from the free throw line.
SMU (2-0) has been victorious in a pair of home matchups against Southland Conference members Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with an average margin of victory of 33.5 points. In the Mustangs' win over TAMUCC on Monday, five different players scored at least 10 points with senior forward Ethan Chargois posting a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while junior guard Kendric Davis finished with 11 points and 11 assists.
The Mustangs are shooting 52.5 percent from the floor as a team and 42 percent from behind the arc to average 94 ppg while holding opponents to just 35 percent from the field. Additionally, SMU has out-rebounded its opponents by more than 18 rebounds per game. Davis is averaging 22 ppg and eight assists per game while junior Feron Hunt is shooting nearly 69 percent from the floor and adding 13.5 ppg and seven rpg.
The last time the Huskies and Mustangs played was Jan. 23, 2010 in Dallas with SMU taking an 82-68 victory. SMU has won all six meetings between the two programs.
The Huskies will host crosstown rival Rice in the first game of a home-and-home series this season on Saturday, Dec. 5, in Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m. for the team's home-opener.
