LAKE CHARLES, La. – HBU men's basketball remains in Louisiana for the second game of its current road trip to face the McNeese Cowboys on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the H&HP Complex. HBU (1-15, 1-6 SLC) senior guard
Jalon Gates surpassed one career milestone in the team's last game and is poised to pass another, becoming just the third player in program history to make at least 200 three-pointers in his career and sitting just 29 points shy of 1,000. Gates connected on 4-of-9 from three in the Huskies' loss at Nicholls to bring his career total to 202, 37 behind Bobby Sanders for second on the all-time list.
Freshman guard
Myles Pierre, averaging 9.8 points per game for the season, has averaged 14.7 over the last three games with a career-high 19 three games ago against New Orleans.
Ian DuBose has also been on a torrid stretch over the last six games, raising his scoring average by nearly four ppg to 20.1, ranking 23
rd in the nation in scoring.
Saturday's game against McNeese (10-9, 5-3 SLC) will feature two of the nation's most prolific three-point shooters in Gates and the Cowboys' Dru Kuxhausen. Gates ranks 13
th nationally with 3.31 made threes per game while Kuxhausen leads the country with 4.37 per game. As a team, the Cowboys boast a trio of scorers who all rank in the league's top-1o with Sha'Markus Kennedy scoring 16.9 ppg and a conference-leading 9.2 rebounds per game, A.J. Lawson averaging 16.2 ppg and Kuxhausen adding 15.9 ppg.
McNeese comes into Saturday's game riding a five-game winning streak that includes a 77-61 win at Southeastern Louisiana in its last game. The Cowboys lead the conference in shooting accuracy, connecting on 51.2 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three. Kennedy, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, also ranks eighth nationally with 3.11 blocked shots per game.
The Huskies will return home to Sharp Gym for their next two games beginning this coming Wednesday, Jan. 29, against the UIW Cardinals at 7:00 p.m.
