Freshman Maggie Reynolds scores her first collegiate goal

DENTON, Texas – The HBU women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 game against North Texas, the defending Conference USA champion, on Friday evening at the UNT Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.

HBU (1-1-0) freshman Maggie Reynolds scored the first goal of her college career during the 80th minute with the Huskies trailing the Mean Green (3-0-0) by two. The Huskies earned a corner kick at the 79:24 mark with Reynolds finding the net off a ball served in by sister Tayah Reynolds.

It took less than two minutes for the Mean Green to put goal number two on the boards on a goal by Logan Bruffett, assisted by Chloe Bohanon and Berklee Peters.'

In goal, freshman Ashtyn Franks made seven saves as the Huskies limited a majority of the Mean Green's shots to long distance attempts. UNT held a 25-2 shot advantage with both of HBU's attempts on target to 10 for the hosts.

"We put up a fantastic fight and played a good game of soccer," said head coach Misty Jones. "We started six freshmen tonight. It was great to see the intensity and the energy we played with."

The Huskies continue on the road on Sunday, Sept. 1, with a 7:00 p.m. kick-off in San Marcos, Texas against the Texas State Bobcats at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
