HOUSTON - The 2018-19 HBU Athletics award recipients were announced at the Honors Convocation in Dunham Theatre Wednesday.
For the second-straight year senior women's golfer Kaity Cummings was awarded the Jan Edds Female Athlete of the Year. The Waco, Texas, native was a four-time Southland All-Conference selection, led the Huskies to back-to-back conference titles in 2017 and 2018 and was the individual champion in 2018.
Junior track and field athlete Denim Rogers was named the Robbie Robertson Male Athlete of the Year. The San Antonio native earned gold in the heptathlon at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships and he currently ranks 12th in the nation in the decathlon.
Four senior women earned perfect 4.0 GPAs for their collegiate careers and share the Athletics Academic Award: track and field's Ana Kriletic, softball's Demi Janak and women's basketball's Amanda Johnson and Sophie Taylor. Johnson and Janak are each CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
Beach volleyball junior Danielle Wheeler and softball sophomore outfielder Sierra Humphrey each earned the Galdino Lucero Service Award.
HBU employee Craig Clark claimed the Frances Curtis and Mildred Boone Spirit Award.
Husky student-athletes picked up additional awards with Cummings also receiving the President's Award and being named Outstanding Kinesiology Student for the School of Nursing & Allied Health. Johnson was recognized by the College of Science & Mathematics with the Max and Celia Grigsby Award for Outstanding Student as well as being named Outstanding Student in Physics. The Archie W. Dunham College of Business honored women's basketball's Sophie Taylor for Excellence in Accounting and football's Mason Thompson for Excellence in Finance. Kriletic was named Outstanding Student in Psychology by the College of Education & Behavorial Sciences while women's basketball's Kennedy Collins was recognized for Outstanding Work in Academic Coaching.
