BSB: HBU Falls to Lamar on Road

Brandon Bena, Nathan Soriano extend hitting streaks to 8 games each



BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to run-rule HBU, 11-1, in a non-conference baseball matchup between the two Southland Conference teams Wednesday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

Junior rightfielder Brandon Bena and junior shortstop Nathan Soriano each singled to extend their hitting streaks to eight games each, with Bena driving in the Huskies' run. Junior third baseman Trent Franson doubled and scored.

Junior righthander Jacob Coats (3-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in three innings.

Cole Coker, Logan Berlof and Rhett McCall each had three hits for the Cardinals, with McCall and Coker driving in two and all three scoring twice. JC Correa doubled and drove in three runs.

Josh Hranicky (1-0) earned the win, shutting out HBU and holding the Huskies hitless in four innings.

The Huskies return to action when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a three-game Southland Conference series Friday through Sunday in Corpus Christi. There will be no Husky Sports Network broadcasts this weekend.
