WBB: Huskies Edged by the Cowgirls

HOUSTON, TX- HBU women's basketball fell to the McNeese Cowgirls Saturday afternoon by a score of 67-72. HBU mounted a 3rd quarter comeback, but was eventually outlasted by the Cowgirls. 

HBU (7-19, 2-14) was paced by the scoring production of Sophie Taylor and Amanda Johnson. Taylor scored 21 points on 6-14 shooting with four assists and two rebounds. Johnson was able to score 18 points including 4-8 from three-point range. Megan Valdez-Crader set the mark on the boards for the Huskies grabbing 11 on the day to go with her six points and three assists. Lauren Calver added an even eight points and eight rebounds.

McNeese (7-20, 5-11) was led by the production by Callie Maddox, Damilola Balogun, and Regan Bolton. Maddox led the Cowgirls in scoring with 20 points on 7-12 shooting to go with her four rebounds and two assists. Balogun recorded a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Bolton added 14 points and three assists. Bre'Ashlee Jones also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. 

HBU trailed by 22 points at the half where after some halftime adjustments came out firing scoring 27 points in the third cutting into the Cowgirl's lead. HBU continued to chip away at the McNeese lead until the five minute mark of the 4th quarter where the Huskies took a four point lead after a Sophie Taylor basket. The lead changed twice in the final minutes until the Cowgirls were able to capitalize on a turnover and a few missed baskets in a row by HBU, and finishing the game on a 5-0 run to secure the victory 67-72.
