HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball team opens its final homestand as one of seven teams vying for the final three spots in the Southland Conference tournament, beginning this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. inside Sharp Gym against the McNeese Cowboys. Husky fans can listen to all the action on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play commentary, available at HBUHuskies.com.

HBU (10-16, 6-9 SLC) is part of a four-way tie in seventh place in the Southland standings along with Central Arkansas, Northwestern State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, one game behind sixth-place Stephen F. Austin at 7-8. Sitting one game behind the Huskies are McNeese (9-19, 5-10 SLC) and Nicholls with all seven teams having three games left on their schedules.

The Huskies boast the 26th-highest scoring offense in the nation, averaging 81.3 points per game. After a three-game stretch early in the conference schedule where they failed to reach 70 points, the Huskies have scored at least 73 in each of the last nine games while scoring 88 or more four times.

HBU sophomore Ty Dalton continues to impress since being moved into the starting lineup nine games ago, averaging 12.9 points and 6.4 rebounds in that span. Fellow sophomore Ian DuBose is averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in conference play while senior Edwrad Hrdt is contributing 12.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg.

McNeese has been without leading scorer and rebounder Roydell Brown for the last five games, going 2-3 during that stretch. Brown is averaging 19.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg in the 10 SLC games he has appeared in. Junior Sha'markus Kennedy is averaging 14.4 ppg and 17.1 rpg and has a team-high 27 blocked shots on the year while James Harvey, a senior, is adding 12.8 ppg and has been the Cowboys' top threat from behind the arc, connecting on 41-of-115 (35.7 percent) from deep.

When the two teams met in Lake Charles, La. earlier this season, the Huskies dug themselves a hole and trailed by 13, 44-31, at the half before fighting back to lead by six with eight minutes to go but the host Cowboys pulled out a 79-73 win. Brown led all players with 28 points and 12 rebounds.

Saturday's game is sponsored by Houston Federal Credit Union.

HBU will close out its home schedule on Saturday, Mar. 6, when the Huskies host Incarnate Word in Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m. It will also be Senior Night with a special recognition ceremony for the HBU seniors prior to the start of the game.
