Natchitoches, La- HBU women's basketball falls to Northwestern State 46-53 on the road Thursday night. The Huskies were plagued by turnovers that Northwestern State turned into 28 points on the other end.
HBU (7-16, 2-11) were led by freshman center
Marilyn Nzoiwu who recorded a double-double in the loss scoring 11 points and grabbing a game high 15 rebounds.
Amanda Johnson added 11 points and three rebounds on the night.
Lauren Calver added eight points on 50 percent shooting and eight rebounds.
Northwestern State (9-16, 4-10) was led by Jasmyn Johnson and Victoria Miller. Johnson scored 19 points including 3-6 from three-point range with six rebounds. Miller recorded a double-double putting up 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Lady Demons had 16 steals and 16 assists as a team.
HBU won the rebounding battle 50-38, but Northwestern State won the turnover battle 15-31. Both teams struggled from three-point range with the Lady Demons shooting 16 percent and the Huskies shooting 7.7 percent from deep.
HBU will quickly get back on the road this Saturday Feb.23 against Sam Houston State before returning home to Sharp Gym against Lamar Feb. 27 and against McNeese March 2.
