HOUSTON – Following its highest-scoring output in conference play so far this season in a 96-92 win at UIW on Wednesday, the HBU men's basketball team aims to keep rolling back at home inside Sharp Gym when the Huskies host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. As always, Husky fans can also catch all the action via the Husky Sports Network broadcast with Lonnie King, available at HBUHuskies.com.

In Wednesday's win at Incarnate Word, a win that snapped a six-game losing skid, HBU (6-13, 2-6 SLC) was lifted by a career-high 27 points from Braxton Bonds and 18 second-half points off the bench from Jalon Gates. The Huskies dominated the boards in that game, 36-23, with 15 of those coming on the offensive end which led to HBU attempting 13 more shots than UIW to overcome the Cardinals shooting 13-of-21 from three-point range.

Through eight Southland Conference games, HBU owns a plus-6.8 rebounding margin over opponents and has out-rebounded its opponent in all but one SLC game so far. As a team, the Huskies are currently seventh in the nation in offensive rebounding, averaging 14.16 offensive boards per outing. Sophomore Philip McKenzie, pulling down 3.11 offensive rebounds per game, ranks 36th in the nation in that category.

The Islanders (9-11, 4-3 SLC) are 2-7 away from home this season and most recently dropped a 78-71 decision at Abilene Christian. In the loss to the Wildcats, Kareem South and Tre Gray led TAMUCC with 16 points a piece while Irshaad Hunte scored a career-high 15. The Islanders shot over 50 percent in the game but were undone by 19 turnovers and being out-rebounded, allowing ACU to attempt 13 more shots in the game.

South, a junior, leads the Islanders with 15.7 ppg in conference play while also adding 4.9 rebounds per game. Junior Elijah Schmidt is the team leader with 6.7 rebounds per SLC game. TAMUCC is averaging 68 points per game in conference and holds a plus-3.7 rebounds per game average. As a team, the Islanders are shooting 42.1 percent from the floor and 30.8 percent from deep in SLC games.

The Huskies will remain at home for the next contest, a meeting with Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Sharp Gym with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
