DAYTON, Ohio – The HBU men's basketball team will bring its season-opening stretch of games away from home to a close at six games on Tuesday evening when the Huskies face the No. 17 Dayton Flyers at 6:00 p.m. CST inside UD Arena, the home of the NCAA First Four. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ while HBU fans can catch all the action on the Husky Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (0-5) have played the most difficult schedule in the nation, according to ESPN's Strength of Schedule rankings. Through games played up until Dec. 1, HBU's five opponents owned a combined record of 24-9 for a winning percentage of .727.
On Tuesday, HBU will likely be without the services of four players, including returning all-Southland Conference guard
Ian DuBose. The Huskies have yet to play a game with the roster at full strength this season with forward
Benjamin Uloko missing time while junior
Hunter Janacek and freshman
Jason Thompson have yet to see the floor.
Senior
Jalon Gates moved to within 200 points of scoring 1,000 for his career last Tuesday against Houston when his 12 points brought him 806 total career points. Gates remains in the top-10 in the country in made three-pointers with 3.6 made treys per game.
Myles Pierre, a freshman guard, has seen an uptick in scoring over the past two games with 13 against Michigan and 15 against the Cougars last week. Pierre is now third on the team in scoring at 8.8 ppg. Sophomore
Qon Murphy, meanwhile, has seen his role increase in his second season. Murphy is averaging 21.4 minutes per game and is averaging 8.0 ppg, good for fourth on the squad.
Dayton (5-1) saw its winning streak snapped at five games last week when the Flyers lost in the championship game of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational in overtime to Kansas but moved into the top 25 in both the Coaches Poll (#17) and AP Poll (#19). Dayton is led by 6-9 sophomore Obi Toppin who is seventh in the nation with a 69.7 percent field goal percentage while is 23 points per game ranks 13
th in the nation. As a team, the Flyers own the fifth-best scoring offense in the country at 87 ppg. The Flyers are also the second-most accurate shooting team in the nation with a team field goal percentage of 53.8 percent.
HBU will play its first game inside Sharp Gym this season on Saturday, Dec. 7, when the Samford Bulldogs come to town for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
