NACOGDOCHES, Texas – On Wednesday evening inside Johnson Coliseum the HBU men's basketball team will open the 2019-20 Southland Conference schedule against Stephen F. Austin with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 while Husky fans can also listen to the Husky Sports Network broadcast with Lonnie King live via HBUHuskies.com.

The Huskies (0-8) have won four of their last five SLC openers, including last year's 88-82 overtime win over Lamar inn Sharp Gym. HBU and SFA (8-2) met once last season with the Lumberjacks escaping Sharp Gym with a 79-77 win.

Wednesday's game will feature three of the top-five scorers in the Southland Conference in HBU's Jalon Gates and Ian DuBose opposite SFA's Kevon Harris. Gates, a senior, continues to stand out among the best three-point shooters in the country, ranking third nationally with 3.88 made threes per game while his three-point field goal percentage of 41.3 percent is 61st. He is currently third in the league averaging 17.6 points per game.

DuBose, a junior guard and preseason first team all-conference selection, stands fifth in the league with 16.9 ppg and is coming off a double-double performance against Rice that included a season-high 29 points and 10 rebounds. Harris, a senior for the Lumberjacks, is leading the conference with 18.2 ppg.

The Lumberjacks are 6-0 on their home floor this season, most recently defeating ULM 66-59. In addition to Harris, SFA has two other players averaging double-figures in scoring with Cameron Johnson averaging 13 ppg and Gavin Kensmil adding 11.8 ppg. SFA leads the nation in steals per game (11.6) and turnovers forced per game (24.6).

HBU will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for its final non-conference game of the season against the New Mexico Lobos on Sunday, Dec. 22, at Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit at 1:30 p.m. CST.
