TULSA, Okla. – The HBU men's basketball program begins the 2019-20 season, and the 29th year under the direction of James Sears Bryant Head Coach Ron Cottrell, this Tuesday with a noon tip-off inside the Reynolds Center against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Tuesday afternoon's game will available to fans via ESPN3 in addition to the Husky Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King available at HBUHuskies.com.

HBU enters the season with nine letterwinners, along with a junior who sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules, returning from last season's 12-18, 8-10 SLC squad. The Huskies' roster boasts eight upperclassmen with six of those in their junior season. Among those juniors is first team preseason all-conference selection Ian DuBose who led the team in scoring (17 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg) and was second in both steals (47) and assists (103). DuBose has started all 61 of the Huskies' games since he joined the program and already sits just 104 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Senior Jalon Gates stands fifth on the program's all-time three-point field goals made list with 149 through his first three seasons. His 75 made threes during his sophomore season is the ninth-highest single season total in program history. Gates has scored 717 points for his career. Ty Dalton, a junior who moved into the starting lineup in the middle of his sophomore year, averaged 9.7 ppg and 4.9 rpg and 2.1 assists per game in Southland Conference play.

The Huskies boasted the league's top scoring offense in 2018-19, ranking 19th in the nation by averaging 82.2 points per game which was 3.5 points higher than the second-highest scoring team. As a team, HBU averaged 13.77 offensive rebounds per game to rank fourth nationally. That marked the third-consecutive season for the Huskies to rank in the top-10 in the nation on the offensive glass.

Tulsa returns two starters and six letterwinners from a 2018-19 team that posted an 18-14 overall record. Senior forward Martins Igbanu is the top returning scorer for the Golden Hurricane having averaged 12.5 ppg and 5.7 rpg while junior Jeriah Horne added 10.1 ppg and 4.9 rpg off the bench. In a preseason exhibition against Rockhurst, the Golden Hurricane were led by junior transfer Brandon Rachal who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Igbanu added 14 points while junior Darien Jackson added 12 off the bench. The Golden Hurricane shot 54.2 percent (32-of-59) from the floor but just 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from behind the arc. Tulsa was picked to finish 10th in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The Huskies are 0-3 all-time against Tulsa with the last meeting coming during the 1993-94 season when HBU was in just its third year after re-instating the basketball program under Cottrell as an NAIA program.

HBU will remain in Oklahoma to complete its Tulsa Two-Step with a matchup at Oral Roberts on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mabee Center.
