HOUSTON – HBU put pressure on McNeese in the second half but the visiting Cowgirls' 2-0 halftime lead held up as the Huskies lost by two in Southland Conference women's soccer on a chilly Friday evening at Sorrels Field.
McNeese (10-6-0, 6-3-0 SLC) did its damage early with Rachel Palet finding the net in the 14
th minute followed by a goal from Havana Johnson in the 18
th minute. HBU (2-14-0, 1-8-0 SLC) got its first attempt on goal in between the Cowgirl scores with junior
Jessica Nevils putting a shot on target. In the 33
rd minute,
Tayah Reynolds possessed the ball at the top of the 18 yard box and put a shot on goal to the right of the McNeese keeper but she made the stop and the rebound attempt by
Catalina Elwonger was stopped by the McNeese back line for a team save.
In the second half, the Huskies had multiple close calls with a long shot by
Noor Abukishk bouncing off the left post in the 60
th minute and a
Ryan Ford shot just sneaking over the crossbar in the 72
nd minute.
Making her fourth appearance in goal, keeper
Karla Ramirez totaled seven saves for the Huskies while the Cowgirls' Christy Gabrielle stopped four. Shots were close to even with McNeese attempting 13 to the Huskies' 11.
HBU will face Lamar at Sorrels Field this Sunday, Oct. 27, in a Southland matchup beginning at 1:00 p.m.
