HOUSTON, Texas- On Saturday afternoon inside Sharp Gym HBU women's basketball defeated the Privateers of New Orleans behind a team effort that saw 5 Huskies record double digit points. HBU did a great job of getting to the free throw line shooting 39 on the day.
HBU (6-6, 1-1 SLC) shot 47.2 percent from the field including 45.5 percent shooting from three-point range. The Huskies had great guard play from
Megan Valdez-Crader and
Sophie Taylor who both recorded 17 points on the day Crader added six rebounds, two assists, and zero turnovers, while Taylor added five rebounds and six assists. In the post for the Huskies was
Veronika Kirienko and
Taylor Kollmorgen. Kirienko recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kollmorgen added 11 points and five rebounds and
Amanda Johnson added 12 points and went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
New Orleans (4-7, 0-2 SLC) were led by the play of Alyssa Quixley who recorded a game high 22 points and added three rebounds. Shania Woods recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
The Huskies jumped out quick on the privateers not playing well on both ends of the floor holding New Orleans to 12 points in each of the first two quarters, while recording 50 of their own in the first half. In the second half the Privateers came out to play slowing the scoring of the Huskies while racking up some scores of their own. The Huskies were limited to 33 points in the second half while the Privateers scored 50 with 29 coming in the fourth.
HBU will next travel to Thibodaux, Louisiana to face off against the Colonels of Nicholls State Saturday Jan. 12
