SAN ANTONIO, Texas – HBU men's basketball heads to San Antonio for a Southland Conference matchup with the Incarnate Word Cardinals this Wednesday inside the McDermott Convocation Center at 7:00 p.m. As always, Husky fans can also catch all the action via the Husky Sports Network broadcast with Lonnie King, available at HBUHuskies.com.
HBU (5-13, 1-6 SLC) continues to boast the highest-scoring offense in the league, averaging 79.1 points per game. Since conference play began, senior
Edward Hardt has seen his numbers rise thanks to a league-leading 63.3 percent (31-of-49) field goal percentage and 16.2 points per game in six SLC contests. The senior is also averaging 8.7 free throw attempts per game against league opponents.
Sophomore
Ian DuBose has also seen his production rise in conference play, averaging 20.1 points per game for the second-highest mark in the league. DuBose is also pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game against SLC opponents to lead the team and rank fifth in the league.
UIW (6-14, 1-6 SLC) has lost five-straight with its last win coming at home over Nicholls, 65-58. In the Cardinals' last game, a 61-52 home loss to New Orleans, they led by four at the half but were out-scored 36-23 in the second period.
The Cardinals are led in scoring by sophomore Christian Peevy who is scoring 12.4 ppg and shooting 55.3 percent from the floor. Freshman Morgan Taylor is second on the team with 11.5 ppg and leads the team with 3.2 assists per outing. The Cardinals' lone senior, Charles Brown III is also averaging double-figures in scoring, adding 10.4 ppg while freshman Antoine Smith leads the team on the boards, pulling down 4.2 rpg.
The Huskies and Cardinals split their two meetings last season with the home team winning each game. In the meeting in San Antonio, DuBose and
Braxton Bonds both scored 16 points but the Cardinals shot over 50 percent in the second half to pull away and down the Huskies 83-71.
Following Wednesday's game, HBU will return home to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Sharp Gym on Saturday, Feb. 2, for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
