HAMMOND, La. – Freshman Catalina Elwonger scored the first two goals of her career and the HBU women's soccer team remained unbeaten in Southland Conference play with a 2-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana at Strawberry Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HBU (5-5-1, 3-0-1 SLC) created some good opportunities early with senior Sabriah Spencer putting a pair of attempts on goal within the first three minutes but Nadine Maher was there to make both saves for the Lions (5-3-2, 2-1-1 SLC). Southeastern Louisiana then tested HBU goalkeeper Alanis Guevara twice in a three-minute span but she came up with a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless 11 minutes in.

The game remained deadlocked with another Spencer shot hitting the crossbar in the 18th minute and Guevara stopping a shot by Sofia Olsson at the 28:33 mark. Elwonger put HBU on the board with just over a minute left in the first period with an assist from Autumn Wildung.

In the second half, Gabby Rodriguez found Elwonger for her second goal in the 56th minute for a 2-0 Husky lead. Southeastern put three shots on goal in the second period before Chloe Gallo came up with a goal in the 88th minute with an assist from Tilly-Hallas Potts.

As a team, HBU attempted 11 shots with four of those on goal while the Lions put seven shots out of 15 on target. Southeastern Louisiana also held a 5-to-1 advantage in corner kicks. Elwonger is now one of four Huskies with two goals on the season while Wildung now has three assists.

HBU maintained its spot at the top of the Southland Conference, tied with Lamar with 10 points.

"It's always great to get wins on the road," said head coach Misty Jones. "SLU played a high energy and organized game. We certainly had to work for the win. Cat scored two nice goals to lead our attack. We aren't happy that we gave up the shutout with only minutes left on the clock, but a win is a win. Now we have to rest up to turn around and play in less than 24 hours, but I'm confident that we'll be ready."

The Huskies will remain in Louisiana, traveling to Thibodaux, La. for a make-up game against Nicholls that was rained out on Friday, Sep. 28, to play on Monday, Oct. 1, afternoon at 12:00 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
