HBU Athletics Hires Stan Williamson as Deputy AD

Former West Alabama, Campbell, Nicholls AD joins Huskies

HOUSTON – HBU Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci announced the addition of Stan Williamson as the department's new Deputy Athletics Director Monday.

Williamson will be in charge of the department's business and operations, as well as overseeing the media relations, athletic training, marketing and corporate sales arms and serving as the sport administrator for selected programs. He replaces Tom Payne, who accepted a similar position at the University of Hartford.

"We are fortunate to be able to find someone in Stan with so much experience in all phases of intercollegiate athletics," Moniaci said. "His leadership and knowledge will be a great asset for HBU. We look forward to Stan helping us move our department and university forward."

A native of Ruston, Louisiana, Williamson has spent the previous seven years as the Director of Athletics at the University of West Alabama. While at UWA, the student-athlete graduation rates increased to 78 and 79%, compared to 29% for the UWA general student body and 56% for all Division II student-athletes. UWA also claimed its first-ever Gulf South Conference Men's All Sports Championship in 2014-15 and won more conference titles under Williamson's guidance than the previous 39 years of UWA athletics combined.

Williamon was also the Director of Athletics at Campbell University from 2000-11 and at Nicholls from 1998-2000. While he was at Campbell, the Camels started a football program, were the Atlantic Sun All Sports Champions in 2005-06 and won conference titles in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf and men's tennis. Williamson also completed the planning, fundraising and construction of a new convocation center, football stadium, athletic training facility and track facility. At Nicholls, he brought the New Orleans Saints training camp to campus, bolstering the local economy, and he increased the annual external fundraising for Colonels athletics by 29%. Williamson is making his second stop in the city, serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Ticketing and Merchandising at the University of Houston from 1994-98 and he began his career in collegiate athletics at Georgia Southern from 1988-94.

Williamson is a member of several NCAA-related organizations and has served on several NCAA committees. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Athletes in Action.

He received both of his degrees from Louisiana Tech, earning a bachelor of science in accounting in 1985 and a Master of Business Administration in 1986.

Williamson's wife, Debra, is the coordinator of women's basketball officials for the American, Atlantic 10, Big East, Ivy and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conferences. They have three children: Courtney, Mark and Nathan.
