THIBODAUX, La. – HBU will look to avenge a one-point loss to Nicholls earlier in the season when the Huskies visit the Colonels on Saturday afternoon at Stopher Gymnasium with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. Husky fans can listen to the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King providing play-by-play commentary, available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (5-19, 1-10 SLC) have lost their last three but feature four players averaging double-digits in scoring in Southland Conference play. Freshman
David Caraher remains second in league scoring at 19.7 ppg while sophomore
Jalon Gates averages 14.5 ppg, freshman
Ian DuBose stands at 14.4 ppg and junior
Braxton Bonds is scoring 10.9 ppg.
In HBU's home game against Nicholls (15-9, 9-2 SLC) on Jan. 6, Caraher led all players with 26 while DuBose finished with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds and freshman
Philip McKenzie added a career-high 10. Senior Roddy Peters led the Colonels with 24 points off the bench and scored the game-winning points on a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left. HBU's shot to win it bounced out of the rim off the back iron.
The Colonels stands alone at the top of the SLC standings as the only team with two losses with four teams on their heals with three losses. Peters, a graduate transfer and one of eight seniors on Nicholls' roster, leads the team with 19.2 ppg and is second in the league in scoring for the season. Tevon Saddler, another graduate transfer, is adding 15.8 ppg and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game. Nicholls is the highest-scoring team in the league, averaging 84 ppg.
HBU is in the midst of a two-game Louisiana stretch in conference play, next traveling to Natchitoches, La. for its lone matchup of the season with Northwestern State on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
