HOUSTON – Wednesday evening's 7:00 p.m. matchup between HBU's men's basketball team and Central Arkansas inside HBU's Sharp Gym will feature the top two scorers in Southland Conference play in UCA senior Jordan Howard and HBU freshman
David Caraher. The game will be broadcast live on Eleven Sports with Marc Vandermeer and Van Chancellor on the call. Husky fans can listen to the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King providing play-by-play commentary, available at HBUHuskies.com.
Caraher, second in the league with 20.3 points per game against the conference, is coming off his fourth double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) of the season last Wednesday at Stephen F. Austin. His 16.3 ppg for the season rank him 11
th nationally among all freshmen. For UCA (12-12, 6-5 SLC), Howard is third in the nation among all players in scoring with 25.5 ppg and has raised that to 26.2 ppg in Southland play.
A pair of Huskies are rapidly approaching a spot on the program's all-time lists. Sophomore
Jalon Gates, who leads the team with 56 made three-pointers this season, now stands at 83 made treys for his career with has him nine away from entering the program's top-15 list. Junior
Braxton Bonds, meanwhile, is 11 steals away from the top-15 in that category with 105 thus far in less than two seasons with the Huskies. Bonds' 218 assists are just 30 shy of the all-time assists list, as well.
Howard is averaging nearly 12 more points per game than any other Bear but fellow senior Mathieu Kamba is also a capable scorer, pouring in a career-high 30 in UCA's last game and averaging 13.6 per outing. Kamba also leads the Bears on the boards with 6.3 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Bears are being out-rebounded by more than four rebounds per game but out-scoring opponents by more than three ppg. UCA is the top three-point shooting team in the league, connecting on 37.9 percent from long range.
HBU owns a 3-2 all-time series lead over the Bears but it was Central Arkansas that came out on top in the only meeting between the two teams last season. UCA left Houston with an 89-78 win behind 27 points from Howard.
The Huskies head to Louisiana for their next two games, beginning this Saturday, Feb. 10, with a visit to Nicholls in Thibodaux, La. Four days later, HBU travels to Natchitoches, La. for a meeting with Northwestern State on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
