SAN ANTONIO, Texas – HBU took a 41-37 lead into the half but a scoreless drought in the second half was the Huskies' undoing as they fell 83-71 to Incarnate Word in Southland Conference action Wednesday night at the McDermott Convocation Center.

David Caraher knocked down a pair of treys in the first 3:13 of the game as HBU (6-24, 2-15 SLC) took an early 8-2 lead. After a Will Gates Jr. layup made it a 12-6 game, Incarnate Word (7-20, 2-15 SLC) went on a 13-4 run to take a 19-16 lead at the 11:21 mark.

The lead went back-and-forth until a seven-point swing gave UIW a six-point lead with just 5:31 in the first half. The Huskies clamped down on defense the rest of the half, holding the Cardinals scoreless of the final 4:25 to go on a 10-0 run to end the half and hold a 41-37 advantage at halftime.

HBU scored the first two buckets of the second half to make it a 14-point run before UIW got on the board for the first time in more than five and a half minutes on a Devin Wyatt layup. An Ian DuBose three-pointer with 18:10 on the clock gave the Huskies their largest lead of nine but Incarnate Word went on a 17-0 run over a five minute stretch to go ahead 62-52 with 10:36 remaining.

An Edward Hardt layup with 6:19 on the clock pulled the Huskies within four but UIW scored the next five points and led by at least seven the rest of the game.

DuBose led the Huskies with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists, which matched his career-high. The freshman was 3-of-7 from the floor but connected on 9-of-10 at the free throw line. Braxton Bonds finished the night with 16 points, five steals and five rebounds. Caraher and Hardt both had eight points in the loss.

Shawn Johnson led all players with 28 points and 17 rebounds while also adding four assists and three blocked shots for UIW. Keaton Hervey added 15 points off the bench while Charles Brown III contributed 11.

The Huskies shot 37.5 percent (24-of-62) for the game and were 16-of-22 from the charity stripe. The Cardinals, meanwhile, connected on 30-of-63 (47.6 percent) from the floor and 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the line.

HBU will wrap up the 2017-18 season on Saturday, Mar. 3, with Senior Night inside Sharp Gym before the start of the evening's game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7:00 p.m.
