SAN ANTONIO, Texas – HBU men's basketball heads into its final road game of the year looking to earn the season sweep over Incarnate Word on Wednesday, Feb. 28, evening inside the McDermott Convocation Center. The last time the two teams met, Jan. 24 in Sharp Gym, the Huskies (6-23, 2-14 SLC) posted their highest point total ever in a Southland Conference game in the 102-86 win.
Jalon Gates scored 23 in the win while
Braxton Bonds and
David Caraher both added 22. As a team, HBU went 12-of-25 (48 percent) from three-point range in the win, matching the team's best three-point shooting game of the season.
HBU boasts one of the top-scoring freshmen duos in the nation in Caraher and
Ian DuBose. The pair are averaging 28.5 points per game in their inaugural campaign with the Huskies, tied for the fifth-highest combined ppg among freshmen in the country behind duos from Oklahoma, Duke, UTSA and Alabama. Individually, the two are the only freshmen in the top-30 in the conference in scoring. Additionally, Caraher and DuBose are combining to average 12.6 rebounds per game and are two of just three freshmen in the top-20 in the league in rebounding.
Incarnate Word (6-20, 1-15 SLC) snapped a 17-game losing streak and picked up its first SLC win of the year this past Saturday with a 69-62 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Charles Brown III led the Cardinals with 18 points in the win while Shawn Johnson posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brown and Johnson are the Cardinals' leading scorers for the season with Brown averaging 13.7 ppg and Johnson scoring 11.6 ppg.
HBU will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Mar. 3, inside Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m. for Senior Night, recognizing seniors
