PHOENIX, Arizona – HBU Softball can't hold on, as Grand Canyon seals a 10-3 win over the Huskies Friday night at GCU Softball Stadium.
Senior
Nicole Shedd went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored, while junior
Demi Janak went 2-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. Freshman
Sierra Humphrey and sophomore
Megan Hiers each scored a run for the Huskies (1-5).
Senior
Stephanie Buenrostro (0-3) took the loss, allowing six runs off six hits with four walks and two homeruns in 5.2 innings. Freshman
Sierra Humphrey appeared in 0.2 innings and allowed four runs of three hits.
Grand Canyon (5-8) was led by Bianca Boling, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a home run. Laynee Gomez hit a three-run homer, while Madelyn Dowdle drove in two off of her home run.
Alexa Coons (2-1) earned the win, pitching five innings and allowed no runs off three hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Mariah Valencia tossed two innings, allowing three runs off six hits, two walks and one strikeout.
The Huskies take on Grand Canyon again Saturday, Feb. 24 at 3:30 p.m. and Niagara at 6 p.m. HBU concludes the GCU Purple Classic Sunday, Feb. 25 at 12:30 p.m., as they face Grand Canyon.
