LAKE CHARLES, La. – As the 2017-18 season nears its conclusion, HBU men's basketball opens the final road swing of the season on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. inside Burton Coliseum. The Huskies (6-22, 2-13 SLC) got a career-high 16 points from junior
Edward Hardt along with seven rebounds in their loss to Lamar on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Freshman
David Caraher led the team with 17 points and nine rebounds while
Oliver Lynch-Daniels added nine points and six rebounds off the bench and
Braxton Bonds finished with nine points, six assists and five rebounds.
Over the last four games, Hardt has averaged 11.75 points per game while shooting 63.9 percent (22-of-35) from the floor. Prior to that four-game stretch, he was averaging 3.3 points per game for the year and has raised that average to 4.6 ppg.
Braxton Bonds continues to approach the program's all-time assists and steals record top-15 lists. The junior is just six assists shy with 242 for his career while his 110 steals are six shy of 15
th. Based on his season-average of 5.0 assists per game, he is on pace to reach 14
th on the list by the season's end.
Sophomore
Jalon Gates, meanwhile, will find himself alone in 12
th on the all-time three-point field goals made list with his next trey. He stands at 94 three-pointers made for his career and his 67 made this season are the 14
th-most ever made in a single season in program history.
McNeese (9-16, 6-9 SLC) is led by sophomore Kalob Ledoux and juniors Jarren Greenwood and Quatarrius Wilson. Ledoux is shooting 40 percent from distance and has knocked down 60 threes this season while leading the Cowboys with 15.1 ppg. Wilson is averaging a double-double for the season with 11.2 ppg and a conference-best 10.5 rebounds per game. Greenwood, meanwhile, leads McNeese with 73 assists for the year and a 12.5 ppg average.
The last time the two teams met came earlier this season in Sharp Gym with HBU falling 86-81 in a back-and-forth game in which McNeese pulled away over the final five minutes. Caraher dropped 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the loss while Gates added a career-high 26 points.
The Huskies will play their final road game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 28, when they visit San Antonio to face Incarnate Word at 7:00 p.m.
