HOUSTON – On Wednesday evening inside Sharp Gym, HBU will look to start a new winning streak against Southland Conference rival Lamar after a four-game streak was snapped when the two teams met in Beaumont in late December. Husky fans can listen to the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King providing play-by-play commentary, available at HBUHuskies.com.

In its last game, HBU (6-21, 2-12 SLC) led Sam Houston State 44-36 at the half but the Bearkats stormed back and pulled away in the final two minutes to down the Huskies 86-78. Freshman David Caraher led HBU with 25 points while junior Braxton Bands finished with 16 points and nine rebounds and freshman Ian DuBose added 13 points and eight boards.

Caraher and DuBose remain the two lone freshmen in the top-30 in the league in scoring with Caraher averaging 16.4 ppg and DuBose adding 12.9 ppg. The freshman duo also boasts the two top rebounding totals among conference freshman with Caraher averaging 6.8 rpg and DuBose 5.7 rpg. Caraher's 2.0 three-pointers made per game puts him 11th in the conference while DuBose's 1.6 steals per game is 12th-best in the league.

Lamar (17-11, 9-6 SLC) is just 6-5 on the road this season, 3-3 within the league. Senior Colton Weisbrod leads the Cardinals with 15.5 ppg and 8.3 rpg, the third-best rebounding average in the SLC. Junior Nick Garth and Josh Nzeakor are both averaging more than 12 points with Nzeakor pulling down 7.4 rpg.

In the meeting between the two teams that opened the Southland schedule on Dec. 28, HBU was without starters Caraher and Will Gates Jr. DuBose led the Huskies with 18 points while Jalon Gates added 17 and Philip McKenzie pulled down eight rebounds in the 86-68 loss.

The Huskies embark on their final road swing of the season on Saturday, Feb. 24, with a 3:30 p.m. matchup at McNeese at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, La.
