SB: Tulsa Scores Late to Down HBU, 3-2

Freshman Pitcher Jessica Patak makes first career start.

LAKE CHARLES – After canceling two games Saturday, HBU softball was able to finish the Cowgirl Classic this morning with a 3-2 loss to Tulsa.

The Huskies (0-2) opened the scoring in the third, after E. Harris sent Sierra Humphrey walking. Kay Schroeder dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Humphrey to second base. With two outs, Libby Brown reached on an error that pushed across Humphry.

In the top of the fourth, HBU struck again, after back-to-back walks by relief pitcher S. Pochop sent Megan Hiers and Demi Janak to first. Brook Bushman singled to advanced Hiers, who soon crossed the plate, due to a defensive error.

Sarah Kosmata and Shelby Estocado opened the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back singles left field off of starting pitcher Jessica Patak. With runners on second and third, Patak walked Rylie Spell to load the bases with one out. Kosmata scored on a ground ball hit to second, putting Tulsa on the board.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth and Tulsa's (2-2) lead-off, who reached on a walk, on second. Morgan Neal singled to right field to advance the runner, but an error by RF, tied the game, 2-2.

The deciding run came in the bottom of the seventh, when lead-off, Julia Hollingworth reached first by a walk. One batter later with one out, Neal singled to put Hollingsworth on third, giving Kosmata the opportunity to push across Hollingsworth for the winning run.

In 6.1 innings, Patak allowed three earned runs on six hits, five walks and one strikeout.
