HOUSTON- HBU women's basketball took down ULM 68-60 Wednesday afternoon behind a team effort that saw four Huskies score double-digit points. The Huskies pushed the ball up-court and were able to get out in transition having 21 fast break points to ULM's 9
HBU (5-5) ends the non-conference schedule with a win going .500 in their first ten games. Junior guard
Sophie Taylor led the HBU in scoring with 16 points and added nine rebounds, one shy of a double-double.
Amanda Johnson added 12 points on 5-9 shooting and added four rebounds and
Takara Wade off the bench added four points with a game high of six assists and tied for the team lead in rebounds with nine.
ULM (5-5) Arsula Clark and Lauren Fitch combined for 42 of the Warhawks 60 points on the day. Clark recorded a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds with six of them coming on the offensive glass to go with her 22 points. Fitch was two rebounds shy of a double-double herself grabbing eight rebounds to go with her 20 points.
HBU out-rebounded ULM 48-42 with ULM grabbing 16 on the offensive glass. HBU shot 47.3% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range and ULM shot 29.3% from the field and 20.% from three-point range. HBU edged out the Warhawks on points in the paint 36-30.
ULM got out to a good start getting a quick six point lead in the first, but once the Huskies started to role they took over. At one point midway through the third quarter HBU had stretched its lead out to 17 points behind two jump shots from
Sophie Taylor. ULM started to mount a comeback late in the third and into the fourth getting it to a two point game following a jumper from Fitch. Teams traded baskets for a few possessions before the Warhawks were forced to foul. HBU was able to hit 6-6 free throws down the stretch to outlast the Warhawks 68-60.
Following a short break for the holidays the Huskies will begin Southland Conference Play visiting Beaumont to take on the Lamar Cardinals Jan. 2 at 7:00 p.m.
