AUSTIN, Texas –
Kayla Davenport, a senior middle blocker, became the HBU volleyball program's latest Google Cloud Academic All-America selection on Monday afternoon, earning second team honors while also being named first team academic all-SLC. The awards were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Southland Conference, respectively.
Davenport, a Columbus, Texas native, joins Allison Doerpinghouse as the two HBU volleyball student-athletes to receive academic all-America since the program transitioned to NCAA Division I play in 2007. Majoring in kinesiology and sport management, Davenport has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average during her time at HBU.
The senior started all 32 matches for the Huskies this season, ranking fourth in the Southland in hitting percentage with a mark of .310. Davenport averaged 1.76 kills per set and totaled 113 blocks for the season. She closed her career tied for 12
th all-time in block assists with 241 and during her senior campaign she reached double-digit kills six times with a career-best 15 against Lamar on Oct. 20.
