HOUSTON – HBU aims to even its record to start the season with its men's basketball home opener on Saturday evening against Fordham in Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m.on a night when the HBU men's basketball program and athletic department are raising funds to donate to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund to benefit recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Florence. All proceeds from the game will be donated along with all donations collected from fans attending the game. The Huskies (0-1) fell in their season-opening game at Arizona on Wednesday, Nov. 7, with junior Jalon Gate scoring a team-high 15 points while sophomore
Oliver Lynch-Daniels added 10 points to go along with six rebounds.
Philip McKenzie, a sophomore, led the team with nine rebounds while freshman
Benjamin Uloko had eight points and five rebounds and senior
Edward Hardt finished with seven points and five boards.
Fordham (1-0) won its opener at home against NCAA Division III City College of New York by a score of 106-58. The Ram were led by freshman Ty Perry who scored 22 points off the bench on 8-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-11 from three. Nick Honor, also a freshman, added 18 points while fellow frosh Onyi Eyisi had 10 points and six rebounds. Fordham finished the 2017-18 season with a 9-22 record and was just 1-10 away from home.
Saturday's game marks the first ever meeting between the two programs and is the Huskies' first game against an Atlantic 10 opponent since the 2011-12 season when HBU visited Duquesne.
The Huskies return to the road for their next two games beginning next Saturday, Nov. 17, with a visit to Madison, Wisc. to face off against the Big Ten's Wisconsin Badgers at 7:00 p.m.
