HOUSTON- Senior
Amanda Johnson posted a team high 23 points to help HBU to a 93-60 win Wednesday evening in Sharp Gym.
Johnson finished the night shooting 10-18 from the field and added two rebounds. Redshirt sophomore
Taylor Kollmorgen posted her third double-double on the season scoring 12 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in the win. The Huskies brought the win home by spreading the ball around by putting up 22 total assists.
Junior guard
Sophie Taylor was one rebound shy of recording her first double-double of the season posting 16 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore
Megan Valdez-Crader added 12 points four rebounds and 5 assists on the night and freshman
Julija Vujakovic added seven points and five rebounds.
Howard Payne (1-3) Kept things close through most of the first quarter and were only trailing by one point after a Janek three-pointer with 4:12 remaining in quarter before HBU pulled away after multiple made shots in the paint by
Taylor Kollmorgen and freshman
Marilyn Nzoiwu.
The Huskies began to pull away for good in the second quarter as HBU locked down on defense not allowing the Yellow Jackets to score until there was 4:05 remaining in the half. Johnson did most of the work for the Huskies in the second quarter putting up nine points on 4-6 shooting, that led to a 45-20 HBU lead at the Half.
HBU out-rebounded the Yellow Jacketsby by a 58-31 margin with the Huskies snagging 20 rebounds on the offensive glass. HBU finished the game shooting 47.4% (37-78) and scored 42 of their 93 in the paint.
The Huskies hit the road this weekend to face Big 12 school Texas Tech Nov. 24 Saturday at 2p.m. CST, before returning home to face off against the University of the Southwest Nov. 27 and hitting the road again to face off against North Texas Dec. 5
