WBB: HBU Comes Up Short Against Texas Tech 76-82

LUBBOCK, Texas-  HBU women's basketball fell to Texas Tech on the road Saturday afternoon at United Supermarkets Arena.

Senior guard Amanda Johnson totaled 19 points on 60% shooting from the field including 5-7 from three-point range. Senior center Kennedy Collins put up double digits in points for the first time this season scoring 14 points and adding seven rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Kollmorgen contributed 10 points on 4-6 shooting and added five rebounds. Sophomore guard Megan Valdez-Crader also added seven points and 10 rebounds.

Texas Tech's Brittany Brewer led all scorers with 34 points on 16-23 shooting and added 13 rebounds. Brewer was supported by Chrislyn Carr who put up 19 points on 6-13 shooting which included 5-6 from the free throw line.

HBU shot 40% from the field and 47.4% from three-point range, while the Red Raiders shot 48.5% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range. Texas Tech out-rebounded the Huskies 47-38.

The Huskies came out of the gate hot taking a lead into the second quarter behind good defense that held Texas Tech to 36.8% shooting from the floor and only giving the Red Raiders one attempt at the free throw line. Texas Tech bounced back in the second quarter behind the strong inside play of Brewer. Texas Tech had the lead going into halftime 39-37. HBU tried to stick with the Red Raiders the rest of the way behind the sharp shooting of Amanda Johnson, but Texas Tech was able continue to score inside and make their attempts at the free throw line to seal away the victory 82-76.

The Huskies return home to Sharp Gym to take on the University of the Southwest Nov. 27 Tuesday at 7:00p.m. After that matchup HBU will travel back north to face off against North Texas (Dec. 5) and Oklahoma State (Dec. 8) before returning home for a two game home-stand against Oral Roberts (Dec. 16) and ULM (Dec. 19) to close out non-conference play.
