Taylor Kollmorgen records her second straight double-double to start the season, as the HBU women's basketball tell pushed past Texas A&M International, 81-48, in a nonconference tilt Wednesday night at Sharp Gym.
Kollmorgen led all scorers with 21 points on 66.7% shooting, and adding 16 total rebounds for the Huskies (2-0). Junior guard
Shannon Jones added 14 points and 6 rebounds knocking down 6-8 from the free throw line. Freshman center
Marilyn Nzoiwu led the game with 4 blocks adding 11 points and 4 rebounds. Junior guard
Takara Wade and sophomore guard
Megan Valdez-Crader led the game in assists with 4 each.
Texas A&M International (0-3) had two players tied with the lead in points, Tantashea Giger and Marina Gatica both score 9 points, Giger adding 5 rebounds and Gatica 1 rebound. Ciera Walker and Kendall Allsup led the DustDevils in rebounds with 6 each.
Texas A&M International shot 27.9% from the floor, 8-28 from 3-point range and 2-6 from the free throw line. HBU shot 45.8% from the floor, 4-16 from 3-point range and 23-33 from the line. HBU outrebounded Texas A&M International 48-40 and out-shot in the paint 32-16.
The Huskies only trailed for 48 seconds as they had control throughout the game. After a three pointer from Bryant of Texas A&M International the Huskies ripped off 8 straight points and never looked back. The Huskies outscored the DustDevils in every quarter with the closet being the second. The Huskies dominated in the paint which allowed them to earn many free trips to the line. The Huskies shot a total of 33 free throws to the DustDevils 6. The Huskies were led once again by Kollmorgen who wiped the glass clean out rebounding the next highest rebounder by 8 rebounds. Kollmorgen also out-scored the next highest scorer by 7 points.
Shannon Jones was the Huskies second look on the night putting up 14 points and taking 8 trips to the line herself.
The Huskies will next travel to Wichita, Kansas to take on the Shockers of Wichita State before returning back to Sharp Gym to take on Howard Payne University Nov. 21 Wednesday at 7p.m.
