SAN MARCOS, Texas – HBU volleyball begins a stretch of 10-straight matches away from home at the Creeds & Crests Classic hosted by Texas State Friday and Saturday at Strahan Coliseum. The Huskies face UMass Lowell at 11 a.m., followed by UTSA at 5 p.m. Friday, before facing Texas State in the finale Saturday at 5 p.m.
Senior outside hitters
Bailey Banks and
Jessica Wooten rank among the Southland Conference leaders in kills, with Banks second in the league at 3.56 per set and Wooten ninth at an even 3.00 and also ranking seventh with 3.94 digs per set. Junior middle blocker
Kayla Davenport is second in the conference with a .483 hitting percentage and senior middle blocker
Blair Gillard is tied for sixth in blocks with 1.00 per set. Freshman setter
Abby Gargus ranks second in the SLC with 10.38 assists per set and senior libero
Hailey Erickson ranks eighth with 3.76 digs per set. Gargus, Banks, Erickson and sophomore defensive specialist
Hannah Lewis each rank among the top 10 in aces.
UMass Lowell (3-3) is led by Katherine Claybaugh with 2.83 kills and 2.39 digs per set, while Haley Shimon adds 2.70 and Madi Bell 2.68 kills per set. Setters Delaney Mendez and McKenna Bova each average more than eight assists per set and Lindsey Visvardis leads the team River Hawks with 3.74 digs per set.
UTSA (0-5) has tested itself with a tough schedule through the first two weeks of the season and Brianna McCulloch leads the Roadrunners with 3.73 kills per set, followed by Marijeta Runjic at 3.07. Amanda Gonzales paces the offense with 10.40 assists per set and Emily Ramirez anchors the defense with 4.00 digs per set.
Megan Porter leads Texas State (4-2) with 3.43 kills per set, with Jaliyah Bolden, Madison Daigle, Amy Pflughaupt, Effie Zielinski and Halee Brewer all averaging at least two kills per set. Erin Hoppe and Brooke Johnson set the table for the Bobcats' 6-2 offense. Pflughaupt leads Texas State with 3.50 digs per set, with Porter adding 3.26 and Micah Dinwiddie 3.00.
The Huskies return to action when they travel up 59 to battle crosstown rival Rice Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse.
