HONOLULU, Hawaii – On Sunday evening, the HBU women's soccer team fell to Utah Valley by a score of 2-1 at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium in the OHANA Hotels by Outrigger Shootout.
Utah Valley (1-1) tested junior goalkeeper
Alanis Guevara throughout the first half, putting six shots on goal over the first 44 minutes. In the 45
th minute, the Wolverines' Doriana Moul snuck a shot past Guevara to the lower left corner to put UVU ahead of the Huskies (0-2) heading into the half. Utah Valley attempted 12 shots to the Huskies' two.
The score remained 1-0 until the 72
nd minute when Breanna DeWaal extended the Wolverine lead to two with an assist from Moul and Amber Tripp. HBU got on the board at the 78:58 mark when senior
Ellee Hall converted a penalty kick for her second goal of the season. The Huskies managed one more shot the rest of the way but the shot off the foot of
Jennifer Gebhardt missed high.
The Wolverines held the advantage in shots (22-to-5), shots on goal (12-to-1) and corner kicks (10-to-5). Hall's goal brought her career total to 17, just two away from tying her for fifth on the all-time goals scored list at HBU.
The Huskies are off for a week before hosting Big 12 member Baylor on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Sorrels Field at 5:00 p.m.
