Sabriah Spencer got an early look for HBU (0-3), getting a look inside the box during the fourth minute that was turned away by the Mean Green (3-2) defense. One minute later, North Texas' Taylor Torres put the hosts ahead 1-0 with an assist from Tori Phillips. 17 minutes later into the first half, Torres picked up goal number two, assisted by Natalie Newell, for a 2-0 Mean Green lead. Berklee Peters then closed out the first half scoring for North Texas, netting her first goal at the 33:36 mark.
Peters picked up where she left off in the second half, netting a pair of goals during the 54
th and 64
th minutes for the hat trick. The Huskies were able to test UNT keeper Miranda Schoening at times throughout the match, but Schoening was up to the task with five saves in her 73 minutes between the pipes.
"It was good to get out and play after sitting for two weeks," said head coach
Misty Jones. "The effort was there but we were certainly a step off today. We struggled to get a good rhythm going and made some key mistakes that resulted in goals. We were able to play 19 different players, which is good to get some of our younger players some much needed minutes. As long as we learn from this game and we get better, then it was a successful weekend."
