HOUSTON – The HBU football team looks to build on its most successful season to date, beginning preparations for the 2017 season in earnest with the team's first fall practice on Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m.
The Huskies return 30 seniors and 16 starters from last season's squad that went 4-7, 3-5 in Southland Conference play and finished seventh in the SLC standings. Among the team's returning players are seven student-athletes that earned All-Southland laurels during the 2016 season, including All-America linebacker
Garrett Dolan.
Head Coach Vic Shealy
"I think the first day of fall camp is always one of the favorite days for me as a coach. To see your returning players, the growth and development they've made athletically and to see them move ahead and move forward in their careers, those are always exciting days. It's also fun to see our new young guys. We feel good about their athletic ability and the type of players they are but to be able to see them mesh with our returners, that's always a dynamic that makes the first day of practice so fun."
"I believe our confidence level is at a great place. The leadership and what our guys have done to put themselves in a position to continue to grow, we feel very excited as coaches about that."
"You spend so much time with these guys in the weight room, working on agility and conditioning all summer long, and that's part of developing but it's not real football. SO now it's time to start playing real football, and that's great."
