HOUSTON – HBU righthanded pitcher
Addison Russ was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 19
th round with the 563
rd overall pick of the 2017 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft Wednesday.
In his two seasons at HBU, Russ appeared in 30 games, with 29 starts, posting a 10-11 record with three complete games, 145 strikeouts and 74 walks in 191.1 innings. This past season he went 2-6 with a 3.62 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 43 walks in 92.0 innings, after going 8-5 with a 3.44 ERA, 66 strikeouts and 31 walks in 99.1 innings in 2016. He finished his career ranked 11
th all-time at HBU in strikeouts and 12
th in innings pitched.
A native of Amarillo, Texas, Russ throws a fastball in the mid-90s, a split-finger fastball and began using a slider more late in the year.
Outfielder Zach Nehrir was the last Husky to be drafted, selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 16
th round following the 2015 season.
